THE SWEDISH SECTION FOR DETONICS AND COMBUSTION
affiliated with The Combustion Institute and The Competence Centre
for Energetic Materials, KCEM are arranging
The Sixth International Disposal Conference
and Exhibition
at Örebro Castle, Örebro, Sweden 10-11 November 2010Call
for papers and preliminary registration
Disposal of waste means environmentally friendly and
resource-conserving recovery of material and energy as well as landfilling or volume reduction by burning in the field. The
International Disposal Conference Series focuses on zone
reaction-related materials (e.g., propellants and explosives in
ammunition) and zone reaction-related processes (e.g., waste
incineration). Related problems are self-ignition (uncontrolled “disposal”)
and remediation of contaminated soil.
We are now organising the 6th conference in the series and are
soliciting papers on
- sustainable disposal and recycling of energetic materials;
- recovery of ammunition, demilitarisation;
- handling of energetic waste in the production of explosive
materials;
- remediation of contaminated soil, e.g., in the production or
use of pyrotechnic items such as propellants, explosives and
others;
- detection of buried ammunition and mines;
- energy recovery from waste: fuel preparation, burning
technique, flue gas cleaning, ash treatment and disposal/material
recovery, etc.;
- self-ignition-chemistry, case studies, prevention,
extinguishing techniques;
- fundamental studies on self-propagating chemical reaction
zones. Their creation (ignition), properties, behaviour (e.g.,
deflagration-to-detonation transition), extinguishing;
- education and training in disposal activities for safe
handling of energetic materials.
Since its start in 1997, these conferences have attracted a
steadily increasing international attention. The technical and
scientific development rate is high within the realm of
environmentally friendly disposal by burning of waste and by
recovery of ammunition and related issues. In order to match this
rate and keep these conferences a “must” for those wanting to be
well informed, the earlier three-year interval is now reduced to two
years.
Opening speech
The opening speech will be held by county governor Rose-Marie
Frebran.
Key note speaker
Professor Ian G. Wallace, Cranfield University.

dinner for participants. The conference will start on the morning of
Wednsday 10th November and end late afternoon on Thursday 11th
November. On Friday the 12th two optional guided tours will be held;
either to the demilitarization plant at Nammo Vingakersverken or a
guided tour to Karlskoga (Bofors Test Centre , Alfred Nobels mansion
and laboratory). The tours will start at 09.00 and end at 15.00.

and a full paper or a power-point presentation by 1st November 2010.
Guided tours
On Friday the 12th two optional guided tours will be held; either to
the demilitarization plant at Nammo Vingakersverken or to Karlskoga
(Alfred Nobels Mansion and Bofors Test Centre). The tours will start
at 09.00 and end at 15.00. Information about Nammo Vingåkersverken
and Bofors Test Centre can be found at
www.nammo.com/Locations/Sweden1/Vingakersverken-Vingaker and
www.testcenter.se/index_en.html. Alfred Nobel travelled a lot
and was one of Europes richest persons. He never lived for a long
period at the same place. At Björkborns Mansion he lived from time
to time during his last three years. Close to the Mansion you can
