KCEM
stands for the Competence Centre for Energetic Materials. KCEM is a
network and a meeting centre for companies, universities,
authorities and all persons within the Energetic Materials sector.
KCEM:s objectives are to:
- Support Education and Training of personnel from all levels
and backgrounds.
- Support and initiate research at universities and other
institutions.
- Perform actual development of Technologies, Production, Design
and Education within Energetic Materials.
- Conduct Research Programmes.
- Be a forum for collaboration for companies, universities,
authorities and other key actors interested in Energetic
Materials.
KCEM was established by the Society of Energetic Material
Interests.
Definition of Energetic Materials:
Compounds, which may decompose without the presence of oxygen
from air.
These can be propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, initiating
substances and thermally unstable substances.
Cooperation is the key to success
Education
Cooperation, KCEM - Universities
KCEM cooperate with Örebro University, Karlstad University,
Mälardalen University and the Royal Institute of Technology to
establish new courses within Energetic Materials at university level.
Basic and Major courses will be available for students and others
who wish to improve their knowledge in Energetic Materials. An
Educational Board assists KCEM in a survey of educational needs
within Energetic Materials.
Cooperation, KCEM - Nordic Explosives Programme, FEX
A cooperation programme for training personnel responsible for the
handling of energetic materials has been established out between
authorities and companies for more than 20 years. These courses are
very comprehensive and comprise up to 5 weeks of training. A demand
for complementary courses on specific subjects has evolved. Together
with the steering committee for the Nordic Explosives Programme, FEX,
and Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) KCEM will develop such
courses.
Cooperation, KCEM - Education Centres
Together with Education Centres KCEM provides distance education
using modern techniques. This allow small companies to arrange
training for their personnel with professional teachers at a low
cost.
Research Programmes
KCEM has ongoing cooperation with a Research Board with participants
from Örebro University, Karlstad University, Mälardalen University,
the Royal Institute of Technology and senior industry research
Managers. Three areas have major priorities:
- New Energetic Materials
- Recycling of Energetic Materials
- Hazard and Safety Research
Research Educational Programmes
A Research Educational Programme was started in 2002 in cooperation
with Örebro University and Karlstad University. Industrial Doctor
Degree and Master Degree Level Programmes are established.
Conferences and Seminars
A very important activity for KCEM is to provide opportunities
for people engaged within Energetic Materials to meet. KCEM:s
objectives are to arrange:
- An annual Conference
- More than two special Theme Seminars annually.
- At least one Workshop annually.
Innovation Support
KCEM acts as a mentor for innovations within Energetic Materials. By
leading the inventor on the right path for finding partners, compile
patents, submit applications for licences etc. KCEM:s objectives
are:
- Supporting business development in Energetic Materials.
- Supporting the expansion and diversity of company portfolios,
as well as the modification of existing products for a commercial
market.
- Creating meeting places for inventors and presumptive
partners.
KCEM will professionally and confidentially guide the inventor
and perform expert audits to support the expansion of innovation to
become a successful product on the market.
